Weatherhead East Asian Institute
Since its establishment at Columbia in 1949, the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, formerly the East Asian Institute, has been the center of modern and contemporary research, studies, and publication on China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Tibet, and, increasingly, the countries of Southeast Asia. The faculty members of the Institute are members of Columbia’s Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, International Affairs, Law, and Barnard College. Annually, the Institute hosts a diverse group of visiting scholars, professionals, and students from around the world. Through its research projects, conferences, and seminars, the Institute creates an international forum on issues facing East Asia.
