Field: Japanese Literature

Jane Traynor is a Ph.D. student in Japanese literature. Before joining Columbia she received her B.A. (2015) and M.A. (2017) from the University of Alberta. Her current research interests center on kyogen, particularly its use of satire and parody as a means of commenting on medieval Japanese society. Her other research interests include kyogen in contemporary society as well as the role of kata (forms) and their transmission in traditional Japanese theatres.
