Field: Premodern Chinese and Japanese Literature

Before joining EALAC’s PhD program in 2013, Ye received her BA in Chinese literature and MA in linguistics at East China Normal University in Shanghai and MA in Chinese history here at Columbia. Her dissertational project examines the textual transmission and knowledge transformation in premodern East Asia, with a special focus on “vernacular” Chinese language and literature in early modern Japan. She is also interested in the interrelationship between literature and history in Chinese prose fiction as well as the Tokugawa-Chosŏn diplomatic relationship in the intellectual, cultural history of early modern Japan.
