As the Water Flows 翠湖 Film Screening

Join us for a screening of As the Water Flows 翠湖 (2026), a feature film by Chinese Independent Director Bian Zhuo 卞灼.The screening (~120 min) will be followed by an online open-floor Q&A (30-50 mins) with the filmmaker on the same day at night. The screening will be in Mandarin/Yunnan Dialect with English subtitles. The post-screening Q&A will be conducted in Mandarin with English interpretation. Set in Kunming, Yunnan, the film follows the emotional life of a retired academic, Shuwen, who intends to seek a new romance after his wife passed away a year ago. Shuwen’s wish faces strong objections from his daughters, yet it also becomes an unexpected opportunity for Shuwen to reintegrate into his family, which he has been “absent” from for decades. As Shuwen tries to navigate his relationship with his three daughters and their families, he also observes the underlying conflicts within the three generations and attempts to fix their relations with his unique ways.
