SUMMARY:Engaging Students in Discussion (For Faculty)
DESCRIPTION:\nRegister here. \n“How do I get students to engage with each other in class discussions? How can I keep the conversation going between class sessions? How can I create a space in which my students feel comfortable sharing?” \nIn this workshop\, we will address these questions by exploring a four-step planning process as well as strategies to ensure that students engage in and learn from discussions and leave with clear takeaways. With intentional planning and facilitation\, you  can maximize student learning from online classroom conversations. \nBefore the session\, we ask that registered participants review the CTL’s Online Resource: Learning Through Synchronous and Asynchronous Discussion\, which informs the workshop activities. \nUnable to join us for this workshop? Check the CTL events calendar for future offerings of this workshop. Engage with our asynchronous offering on this topic: Learning Through Synchronous and Asynchronous Discussion (on-demand resource); Learning Through Online Discussion (Student as Pedagogical Partners resource); or schedule a consultation. \n\nColumbia University makes every effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities. Contact ColumbiaCTL@columbia.edu or 212.854.1692 for accommodations.\n
