SUMMARY:LC1: Teaching Beyond the Classroom (for Grads)
DESCRIPTION:CTLgrads Learning Community – Teaching Beyond the Classroom (Session 1) – for graduate students \n\nHow do we as teachers think about teaching to different audiences\, in different contexts\, and in different places? We will explore concepts of expert bias\, inclusivity and access\, peer-to-peer learning\, and teaching without a teacher. We will do this in a traditional classroom setting and then also explore this through a field trip to a local museum. Participants will work together to iterate on a teaching concept using inspiration and feedback from within the classroom and outside. \nThis LC will meet in person and is designed and facilitated by Jennifer Mead and Garima Raheja\, Senior Lead Teaching Fellows at the Center for Teaching and Learning. Participants should register for and attend both sessions of this LC. Note that session 2 of this Learning Community will take place at the American Museum of Natural History. Registration for Session 2 on Tuesday 3/26\, 3:00pm–5:00pm\, is available here. Each session of this LC counts as a Pedagogy Workshop for the Teaching Development Program (TDP). See the TDP FAQs for more information about obtaining credit for this and other graduate student-led events through the CTL. \nColumbia University makes every effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities. Contact ColumbiaCTL@columbia.edu or 212.854.1692 for accommodations. \nThis event may be photographed.
