SUMMARY:LC2: Teaching and Learning While Feeling like an Imposter (Grads)
DESCRIPTION:\nCTLgrads Learning Community: Teaching and Learning While Feeling like an Imposter (Session 2) – for graduate students  \nNearly every student will deal with imposter syndrome at some point in their academic career. The problem for graduate students instructors is two-fold: how can we effectively teach students suffering from imposter syndrome? And how can we do it while we suffer ourselves? \nJoin us for an interactive two-part discussion where we tackle both these questions in kind. We will cover the latest scholarship on the topic from psychology and pedagogy and propose strategies to help make ourselves and our students feel like we all belong. Participants will come away with a greater understanding of how to spot imposter syndrome in themselves and in the classroom\, and how they can alleviate the negative impacts of both. This LC is intended for graduate students in any department. \nThis two-part Learning Community will meet in-person and is designed and facilitated by Jacob Bergquist and Bovey Rao\, Senior Lead Teaching Fellows at the Center for Teaching and Learning. Participants should register for and attend both sessions of this LC. Registration for Session 1 on Monday 1/30\, 2:40–3:55pm\, is available here. Each session of this LC counts as a Pedagogy Workshop for the Teaching Development Program (TDP). See the TDP FAQs for more information about obtaining credit for this and other graduate student-led events through the CTL. \n— \nColumbia University makes every effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
