Light of the Setting Sun (2024) is a patient inquiry and unfolding of filmmaker Vicky Du’s family history. Using archival, voiceover, and intimate interviews with family members, Du pieces together her family’s war-torn past across three generations and three countries: China, Taiwan, and the United States. What results is an honest, empathetic and nuanced portrait of the costs of survival of a post-war, diaspora family. Du will screen the film and participate in a Q&A afterwards. (Watch the film’s trailer below.)
This event is hosted by the Weatherhead East Asian Institute and co-sponsored by the Asian American Initiative, the Film and Media Studies Program, and the Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures.
