DESCRIPTION:The talk will be in Japanese. \n“日本古代の音楽 (Music in Ancient Japanese Temples)” \nShinji Yoshikawa (吉川真司)\, visiting Professor of East Asian Studies at Princeton University\, specializes in ancient Japanese history from the 7th through the 11th century. He has focused mainly on the political system. His research is based on documents\,  both official and private ones\, including variety of diaries of Heian aristocrats. \nAlso\, he is interested in Chinese culture\, which had a great influence on  ancient Japan. In recent years\, he visited many historical sites in China and neighboring countries to get firsthand look. \nAt Princeton\, he will teach courses to read historical materials in ancient Japan\, such as legal texts\, histories\, inscriptions\, documents and diaries. \n
