SUMMARY:Navigating HOT Moments: Before\, During\, & After Class (In Person)
DESCRIPTION:\nRegardless of course topic or content\,  HOT—heated\, offensive\, or tense—moments in the classroom are always a possibility. Although never fully avoidable or predictable\, there are steps instructors can take to help mitigate the potential for these moments\, and strategies to help better equip instructors for navigating HOT moments when they occur. Building upon reflections and discussions from the Anti-Racist Pedagogy in Action: First Steps session\, this session will help instructors identify strategies for engaging with\, facilitating\, and navigating HOT moments before\, during\, and after class. \nPlease note: This session will draw from reflections and activities completed during our live Anti-Racist Pedagogy in Action: First Steps session. We strongly encourage that you complete that session in community with others. If\, however\, you are unable to attend a live offering\, we do offer an asynchronous worksheet that can be completed ahead of this session. \nAfter attending this workshop\, participants will be able to:  \n\nIdentify strategies for anticipating and preparing for HOT moments before they occur\nIdentify ways to respond to and follow up on HOT classroom moments during and after class\nAccess strategies to become better equipped to navigate HOT classroom moments\n\n\nColumbia University makes every effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities. Contact ColumbiaCTL@columbia.edu or 212.854.1692 for accommodations. \nThis event may be photographed. Note\, if this is an online event\, CTL staff may take screenshots.
