SUMMARY:Teachers' Lounge | (Re)Learning to Be Present (for Grad Students)
DESCRIPTION:\nAfter over a year of remote teaching and learning\, along with various constrictions of public interaction\, we may well find ourselves unsettled when stepping back into the classroom. In this session\, we will have an open conversation about anxieties that may be triggered by classroom set-ups and activities. We will also consider ways that our appreciation of in-person teaching may be refreshed\, specifically how physical senses may be engaged in the service of learning objectives in a way that is not possible online. \nTeachers’ Lounges are a series of informal discussions for graduate students about teaching practices and the culture of learning at Columbia. As teaching conditions continue to evolve this semester\, our theme will be (Re)Locating Teaching. How has the pandemic sharpened or renewed our understanding of the value of in-person teaching? What can changes in the use of public spaces beyond campus inspire in our own classrooms? Join us to hear and share perspectives from the front lines of teaching during this unsettled but generative moment. \nThis session is in-person and facilitated by Mark Phillipson and Caitlin DeClercq from the Center for Teaching and Learning. \n\nColumbia University makes every effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
