SUMMARY:Essentials of Teaching and Learning 4: Assessment and Feedback
DESCRIPTION:Join the CTL for a workshop for graduate students focused on giving you tools to assess students accurately\, efficiently\, and encouragingly. In this workshop\, you will learn approaches for assessing student learning and providing feedback that encourages students to focus more on their improvement and less on bottom line scores. We will introduce tools to help streamline and standardize assessment and feedback\, while helping students better understand what is valuable in the topic and discipline. Breakout groups during this session will allow you to focus your discussion on written assignments or problem sets. \nRegister here. \nPrior to this session\, participants are expected to have completed a 20-minute module on Canvas. To get started on the module\, self-enroll in the Essentials Canvas site here: https://courseworks2.columbia.edu/enroll/CBT7BT. \n***Registration will close the night before the live session.*** \nBy the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n– Describe the difference between formative and summative assessments.\n– Develop the values and concepts that underlay meaningful\, relevant\, and accessible feedback.\n– Plan activities you can use with your students to measure students’ learning and get feedback on your teaching. \nThe Essentials of Teaching and Learning workshop series for graduate students is focused on giving you tools as a new or developing instructor to better facilitate student learning and improve your teaching practice. These workshops are best experienced sequentially. \nThis is the last of 4 sessions being held at the same time on the following dates:\n– Inclusive Teaching: Creating Engaging Learning Environments\, 1/19\n– Designing Learning Objectives\, 1/26\n– Active Learning\, 2/2\n– Assessment and Feedback for Learning\, 2/9 \nFor more information and registration links for these additional sessions\, see: https://ctl.columbia.edu/graduate-instructors/programs-for-graduate-students/workshops-for-graduate-students/essentials/. \nAttending this workshop and posting reflections satisfies a Foundational Track requirement for participants in the Teaching Development Program (TDP). SUMMARY:TSE Introduces a Brand New Playing Field for Japanese Companies
DESCRIPTION:Live Webinar | Register here. \nTuesday\, February 9\, 2021 | 7:00-8:00 PM (EST) \nWednesday\, February 10\, 2021 | 9:00-10:00 AM (Japan Time) \nFeaturing: \nRyota Kimura\, Chief Representative & General Manager\, New York Representative Office\, Tokyo Stock Exchange\, Inc. \nModerated by: \nAlicia Ogawa\, Director\, Project on Japanese Corporate Governance and Stewardship\, Center on Japanese Economy and Business\, Columbia Business School \nWhat you’ll learn: \nIn the U.S.\, NASDAQ has issued new diversity requirements for companies listed on that exchange. Similarly\, the TSE is introducing new requirements for being listed on Japan’s stock exchange\, which will address many persistent concerns of investors: cross-shareholding\, lack of diversity\, and weak corporate governance are only some examples.\nStock market indices will be reformed to highlight the companies that meet the new standards. Market indices are a key driver of investor appetite\, particularly in the case of large index funds. Therefore\, the new “best” companies are likely to enjoy a boost to their stock prices\, relative to their former peer group.\nIncentives for companies to list their shares on the stock exchange will change. Once seen mainly as a source of prestige and a means to attract new hires\, a listing on the TSE will now demonstrate to investors an accountability to shareholders\, as well as a commitment to sustainable growth strategies.\nAbout the Speaker: \nRyota Kimura is Chief Representative & General Manager of New York Representative Office\, Tokyo Stock Exchange\, Inc. (TSE). The New York office led by Mr. Kimura is responsible for promotion activities related to all products listed on TSE\, such as Japanese equities and fixed income products\, as well as research activities regarding the securities and derivatives markets in the U.S. \nPrior to his current role\, Mr. Kimura was Head of Product Development\, New Listings Department based in Tokyo\, Japan. The team was responsible for developing listing rules for structured financial products\, such as exchange traded funds (ETFs)\, exchange traded notes (ETNs)\, real estate investment trusts (REITs)\, TOKYO PRO-BOND Market (TPBM)\, and etc. as well as promoting these structured financial products to the TSE market. \nPreviously\, Mr. Kimura was Senior Manager of Financial Planning\, Treasury Department at Tokyo Stock Exchange Group\, Inc. for five years and he spent six years at TSE’s Stock Market Department and led the development of trading rules and regulations for cash equity products including ETFs and REITs. \nMr. Kimura received his MBA from the Darden School at University of Virginia (USA) and his BA in Economics from Waseda University (Japan). \nAdmission and Contact: \nThis is a free event.
