Jingyi Yuan

Jingyi Yuan is a PhD student in the East Asian Religion track. She specializes in the visual and material culture of Japanese religions, with a focus on pilgrimage and print culture in the early modern period. Her ongoing research examines how portable and reproducible objects (such as pilgrimage tokens, maps, board games) collectively constructed visions of sacred space among lay audiences. More broadly, she is interested in questions of replication, mobility, and embodiment.

Before joining Columbia, Jingyi received her B.A. in Psychology and East Asian Studies from Oberlin College (2021) and M.A. from the Regional Studies – East Asia (RSEA) program at Harvard University (2025).
