Meet our 2023-24 EALAC Undergraduate Senior Thesis Writers!
Please join us in congratulating our undergraduate 2023-24 Senior Thesis writers for all of their hard work and efforts in the Senior Thesis Program! These students did an outstanding job and received the Oscar Lee Award for Senior Thesis Writers for their achievements. Many thanks to Norman Hanson, our sponsor for supporting our students.
Norman Hanson attended Columbia from 1975 to 1979. He started as a pre-med but moved over to East Asian Languages and Cultures in his junior year. He is a member of the first class of majors (and, arguably, the FIRST undergrad major graduated from the department). He attended law school, and then practiced biotechnology patent law until his retirement in 2020 as the pandemic hit. Now, he’s finishing up his Master’s degree in food studies at NYU, and then looks forward to traveling with his husband and partner of 40 years, Guy. Norman Hanson created the Oscar Lee Awards program in honor of his dear friend and former fellow EALAC student, Oscar Lee. To hear more about this extraordinary story, be sure to attend our annual Oscar Lee Awards ceremony, which honors all senior thesis writers who have successfully completed an honors thesis.
