Diversity Statement Analysis Session (Online)

09/21/2022 @ 4:10 pm - 5:25 pm

Online Register here.

Diversity statements are becoming increasingly common in the academic job application process, but what are they and how do you write one? At this session you will collaborate with CTL staff and colleagues from other departments to collectively analyze excerpts from real diversity statements. You’ll analyze how the candidate effectively communicates their efforts, commitments, and contributions as well as what details make the excerpts effective or not so effective. Hearing others’ readings of the samples will help you to write and revise your own statement by honing your critical eye.

Prior to this session, participants are expected to have completed a 20-minute module on Canvas. To get started on the module, self-enroll in the Intro to the Diversity Statement Canvas site here: https://bit.ly/38P8Ni2

***Registration will close the night before the live session.***

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Analyze and identify the characteristics of an effective diversity statement
  • Begin drafting an effective diversity statement of their own
