EALAC MA Career Workshop

Coffee and pastries will be served.

We will have three speakers for the workshop:

1) Rachel Bernard, Director of GSAS COMPASS Graduate Career Development (Compass).

Rachel will introduce the COMPASS services, which many of you are using.

2) Xun Zheng, a current PhD student in Japanese film and Media who was in our MA program from 2018 to 2020. Before re-joining the EALAC graduate program, Xun spent a year at the IUC Japanese program and another year working for the Thinkingdom publishing house in Beijing as a marketing researcher.

Xun will talk about making decisions between graduate school and a job as well as how to use the gap years between the MA and PhD studies productively.

3) Josh Gottesman, an Associate Director at Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). Josh has spent the last four years at MJFF. As Associate Director, Research Data, he leads efforts to build communities around, increase access to, and improve the usability of Parkinson’s research data. Prior to joining MJFF, Josh earned an M.A. in Chinese history from Columbia (2015-2016), completed a Fulbright Research Grant at Huazhong Agricultural University in Wuhan, China, and served as a Jr. Fellow for U.S.-China Relations at the Asia Society Policy Institute.

Josh will introduce his experience of finding a successful career in US firms and how to use your graduate studies experience in the process effectively.
