New Directions in Chinese Contemporary Music

The Department of Music at Columbia is taking advantage of the extraordinary presence in New York City of a group of composers from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, to present a seminar at Columbia on new directions in Chinese contemporary music.

The event will be co-hosted by Professor Weiya Hao, Dean of the Composition Department, and our own Professor Georg Friedrich Haas. Professor Hao was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Music at Columbia in 2014-15.

Five composers associated with the Central Conservatory of Music will present their work and take questions:
* Professor Wenjing Guo, former Dean of the Composition Department
* Professor Jianping Tang, former Dean of the Composition Department
* Professor Guoping Jia, Director of the Institute of Musicology
* Professor Ping Chang, Vice Dean of the Composition Department
* Professor Danbu Chen
