Panels, Workshops, and Presentations

This workshop introduces EALAC graduate students to the fundamentals of conference panel organizing, workshop planning, and public presentations, three critical components of academic professionalization. Topics will include: when and why to present your work publicly; strategies for turning research into an abstract and a presentation; effective presentation and time management; the importance of institutional and individual diversity for panel- or workshop organizing; and finding workshop funding. The final segment of the workshop will survey conference and funding opportunities (and their related timelines), including the main and regional AAS conferences, and select graduate student conferences; GSAS and Departmental travel funding; and Weatherhead workshop funding grants.
