Tools to Engage Students: Polls, Discussion, and Peer Collaboration

01/19/2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

What educational technology tools are available to me as a Columbia instructor? What platforms will help engage my students in online discussion? What options do I have to create collaborative writing activities, annotation assignments, in-class polling, or an active back channel?

If you are seeking new ways to actively engage your students in and out of the classroom, come to this workshop where we will share tools and platforms available to the Columbia community. You will see short demonstrations of Ed Discussions, a richly featured discussion platform; Poll Everywhere, a tool for posting questions and spontaneous surveys in class; and Perusall, a free collaborative annotation tool. This will be followed by opportunities to ask questions and to reflect on how you might intentionally integrate these tools and platforms into your teaching context.

Unable to join us for this workshop? Engage with our on-demand resources: Collaborative LearningEnhance your Course Discussion Boards for Learning: Three Strategies Using Ed Discussion, and Poll Everywhere: Audience Response Systems. You can also schedule a consultation, or find other workshops on our CTL events calendar.
