Workshop in Classical Japanese Dance

10/17/2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Helen Moss and Yoshiko Furuse, both of the NYC-based IchiFuji-kai Dance Association, will be teaching us a section of Musume Dōjōji, one of the best-known dance-dramas of the kabuki theater. We will be learning the dance through the lens of Sōke Fujima Nihon buyō, the classical dance style in which it was created. No prior experience is necessary, and we welcome your participation.

For those interested in attending, please RSVP to me (aeb2197@columbia.edu) no later than Monday, October 15th. We will have dinner on hand for all participants, so it will be helpful to get a sense of numbers in advance.

This workshop is hosted in conjunction with my current Teaching Scholars seminar, “Theater Traditions of China and Japan.” Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
