Joanna is a PhD student of modern Chinese Literature associated with the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society. She is interested in examining the shifting constitutions of the ethnographic as an idiom for the nation in modern Chinese cultural production. Her other research interests include poststructuralism, Marxist thought, intellectual history, problems of translation, and problems of difference and alterity. Joanna received a BA in Comparative Literature from Columbia University, and worked at Yale-NUS College in Singapore prior to beginning her PhD at Columbia University.
