Teaching Statement Analysis Session (In-Person)

09/21/2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Are you a graduate student preparing a teaching statement for the academic job market? At this session, you will meet with CTL staff and colleagues from other departments to collectively analyze excerpts from real teaching statements. You’ll analyze how the instructor effectively communicates their practice and approach to teaching as well as what details make the excerpts effective or not so effective. Hearing others’ readings of the samples will help you to write and revise your own statement by honing your critical eye.

Prior to this session, participants are expected to have completed a 20-minute module on Canvas. To get started on the module, self-enroll in the Intro to the Teaching Statement Canvas site here: https://bit.ly/3tnGgda

***Registration will close the night before the live session.***

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and analyze the characteristics of an effective teaching statement
  • Begin drafting an effective teaching statement
