(Hybrid) Hybrid & Online Teaching Institute Synchronous Session

Are you teaching a hybrid/HyFlex course in Spring 2021?

Enroll in the Hybrid & Online Teaching Institute offered by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to access a toolkit to help you plan your seminar, small lecture, or large lecture class.

Once you’ve completed the asynchronous Modules in CourseWorks (approximately 4 hours), including Module 5: Hybrid/HyFlex Essentials, join the CTL and other faculty participants for this 90-minute synchronous session. You will have the opportunity to experience the hybrid/HyFlex modality as a learner would, whether you participate in-person or via Zoom. Join us to connect with colleagues teaching hybrid courses, share ideas and teaching approaches, discuss challenges and solutions in breakouts, engage in Q&A discussion, and plan for your course context.

This session will be held in a Columbia classroom on Morningside campus and will be facilitated using hybrid (HyFlex) methods. Participants can choose between:

Attending via Zoom. Please complete this University Events registration.
Attending in-person. Please complete this University Events registration and the in-person reservation form: https://forms.gle/vKAqQDz14BJvKagk6. We have a limited number of in-person seats available for this session, and they are reserved on a “first come, first served” basis.
Note: All participants–whether attending via Zoom or in-person–must complete this University Events registration. A Zoom link will be shared with all registrants 24 hours before the session. Participants attending in-person are encouraged to bring a laptop computer and headset to interact with colleagues joining via Zoom.

Please note that this session will be using Zoom. Before you attend this session, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with Zoom. You can access CUIT’s zoom training sessions on their Zoom training page. For electronic classroom training on Morningside campus, contact eclassrooms@columbia.edu.

Columbia University makes every effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities. Contact ColumbiaCTL@columbia.edu or 212.854.1692 for accommodations.

This hybrid event may be photographed (via camera and screenshots) or video-recorded in person and online. For concerns, contact ColumbiaCTL@columbia.edu.

Showcase Your Teaching Development with the TDP (Graduate Students)

n 2018, the Center for Teaching and Learning launched the Teaching Development Program (TDP), to offer doctoral students a means to document and articulate their teaching development at Columbia. Completion of foundational or advanced tracks in the TDP is certified by the CTL and noted on transcripts in Arts and Sciences, SEAS, and at the Mailman School of Public Health. For more information or to register, see bit.ly/ctl-tdp.

Students currently in the TDP program as well as those thinking about jumping in are invited to join us. In particular, we welcome to this session:

Prospective participants in the TDP who are interested in learning more about the program
Participants who recently joined the TDP’s Foundational Track who are interested in learning more about tips for getting started
Current participants on the Foundational Track of the TDP who want to work with the CTL and peers to map out strategies for track completion
Note: Participants who are on the Advanced Track of the TDP are invited to join us for a separate event on Friday, January 22, 2021, 1-2pm Eastern Time. Visit the CTL events calendar or contact CTLgrads@columbia.edu for more information.
